PhD student survey on co-operation

Dear all,

If you get chance please have a look at this survey. In the researcher's own words....

I retired last year after decades in contracts and commercial work and I am working on a PhD at Leicester University and part of the work involves a survey of experienced contract professionals , contract and project managers , procurement people and legal professionals on the role of cooperation in contract management. It would be very helpful if you could complete the survey and if you were able to find colleagues in the right discipline to do so too. The survey will be open for some time to come so this is not an urgent request.

The link to the survey is below and the survey should take around 20-30 minutes to do according to feedback from the pilot and from participants. I hope you find it interesting and if you’d like to hear my overall findings please let me know.

Regards

Haward

Student NEC research

In the student's own words.....

The reason I'm contacting you is because I require assistance with my dissertation project I am currently undertaking at Glasgow Caledonian University and have emailed you as I feel your input would be extremely valuable. I would be grateful if I could borrow 10mins of your time to assist in my research.

Programme : BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying
Dissertation Title :  The challenges faced in implementing NEC3’s proposed culture in today’s industry

I am currently an Honours Degree level student based in the Cumbernauld office for BBUS on the above programme and as part of my final year studies, I am required to undertake a Dissertation project.

I have tried to speak to as many people as I can before emailing this so as it comes as no surprise but unfortunately not been able to contact all. If I haven’t spoken with you directly before and sending you this email its due to someone recommending your name as someone who could have a valuable input into my research.

My chosen title is “The challenges faced in implementing NEC3’s proposed culture in today’s industry”, and I am writing to ask if you would be prepared to assist me with my research, this should take no more than 10 minutes of your time.
I would confirm that all information obtained as a result of the above will also be used solely for the purposes of fulfilling the dissertation criteria. Also, all respondents will remain anonymous and confidentiality of responses is guaranteed.

If you are able to assist me it would be greatly appreciated. I have tried to provide as much multiple choice answers as I can so it’s more convenient to finish the survey, but some of the answers will require some text input as the research will be based on people’s opinions of culture/NEC.

The closing date was 19/3/13 but seems to still be open.

Student NEC research

Dear all,

Another student in need of a bit of your time. The student says....

"I am currently in my final year of an Honours Degree in Quantity Surveying in the School of the Built Environment at Heriot Watt University. For my dissertation, I have chosen the topic "Does the NEC3 Contract improve the Client and Contractor relationship"

As part of my research I require input from within the construction industry from those who have had practical experience in using this contract. I am writing to you to ask for the link below to my questionnaire to be forwarded onto anyone who would be appropriate to contribute their opinions. This will assist me in gathering the research required to allow me to comprehensively complete my dissertation."

Student NEC research

Dear all,

You can all have long lunches today!

More student research, this student says...

I am currently an Honours level student at Glasgow Caledonian University studying Quantity Surveying. As part of my final year dissertation I am conducting a survey of people in the industry with practical experience of NEC3 projects. The title of my dissertation is 'Dispute Avoidance and NEC3; to what extent has use of the NEC3 contract reduced disputes?' The purpose of the survey is to gather information from NEC3 users on their experiences of how successful the contract is at reducing disputes.

Thank you,
Rob

Another student looking for support with their research who says...

I am a student researching the role of the Project Manager on NEC contracts.

I would be most grateful if you could forward the link to my survey to the NEC Users' Group members.

Thank you.

Student NEC research

Dear all,

Another student survey if you would please. This student  aims to determine the impact of the gain / pain share mechanism specifically, in contributing to value for money in NEC contracting. Depending on whether the user is basing their response on the use of Options A / B, or C / D, a slightly different survey route will become available. He then hopes to be able to compare and contrast, and discover the impact this incentive mechanism (and its absence) has on value for money.

Thank you.

Student NEC research

Dear all,

Another survey to complete on your next tea break if you would be so kind.

The title is ......"Does the NEC help the project manager to act as a competent project manager?"

And the student says "The NEC (www.neccontract.com ) is advertised as a project management tool - but does it work? As part of my dissertation for an MSc in Project Management, I would be grateful if you could spend 5 minutes of your time to complete a short survey on the above topic. I hope to share my findings within the NEC and APM communities.

Many thanks

Student NEC research

Dear all,

More student research on NEC3 Contracts for you to contribute to. The student is currently studying for an undergraduate honours degree in Quantity Surveying at Glasgow Caledonian University.

The topic of his research is “Investigating the Use of, and Effectiveness of the NEC3 Contract and its Secondary/Optional Clauses” and the main purpose of the dissertation is to investigate the relevant selection of certain secondary and optional clauses for inclusion in contracts procured using the NEC3 form of contract and to question whether or not a lack of knowledge of these clauses in the industry actually leads to the inclusion of clauses which have no implications on the project whatsoever?

The student says he seeks to observe the current industry opinion on these clauses and the relevance of their use therefore, it would be greatly appreciated if you could take the time to assist him in his research by completing this questionnaire - your knowledge, experience and opinions on the NEC3 Contract will prove invaluable.

Many thanks in advance,
Rob (& the student of course!)

NEC student dissertation

Dear all,

Another student survey if you have a few minutes to spare please. In the student's own words....

I am undertaking a Masters' Degree in Surveying (Quantity Surveying and Construction Management route) at the College of Estate Management as part of my final dissertation and the Sir Ian Dixon Award for the Chartered Institute of Building; I am researching the question of whether the NEC3 contract has met its aim in delivering client satisfaction.

I am trying to understand and describe what client satisfaction looks like to a wide selection of major clients that use the NEC3 contracts.

I would be grateful if you would kindly complete the attached questionnaire. All information given will be treated with strict confidence and I will be happy to share a copy of the summary of results.
Thanks,
Rob

NEC student research

Maybe the last bit of student assistance for the week? In the student's own words....

I am a student in my final year at the College of Estate Management, University if Reading, studying towards a BSc (Hons) in Quantity Surveying.

For my Comprehensive research project I have chosen to investigate whether Clause 10.1 of the NEC is an enforceable and effective contract term, by gauging the perception levels that the users of the NEC attribute to this clause. The questionnaire is pivotal to the success of my project, so I would be very grateful if people could spare less than 5 minutes of their time to complete the survey by accessing the questionnaire from the following hyperlink:

I will share my results of the project with yourselves and anyone who participates in the survey who wishes to know the results once completed in early August, so please forward me the contact details of where to send the research to.

As always, this is much appreciated by the student/university.
