NEC student survey

Dear all,

Another student survey, is there just enough lunchtime left for you to do this?!

In the author's own words.....

I am a final year student carrying out my dissertation of clause 10.1 within the NEC.

I require results from the contractor, client and legal sides and as I carried out my placement for Costain last year, currently all results I'm getting back are from the contractor's view point.

The link to the questionnaire is below and shouldn't take more than a few minutes.

Many thanks

Jamie

Student NEC dissertation

Dear all,

Another 5 mins of your time please for this student's research. In his own words....

I am presently completing a MSc in Construction Law and Dispute Resolution and would appreciate if you and any of your colleagues with experience of the ECC C would complete my survey.

The questionnaire aims to capture the opinions of construction professional experienced within the use of the ECC Option C form of contract and the research seeks to establish ‘if in administering disallowed costs under ECC Option C, the Project Manager is in danger of breaching the required spirit of mutual trust and co-operation’.

The survey will only take 5 minutes to complete and all  responses provided will be combined and analysed collectively to ensure no one contribution is identifiable, therefore ensuring the anonymity of the participant and their organisation

Many thanks for your assistance and time.

Student NEC dissertation

Dear all,

Hopefully you've 10mins this lunchtime to spend completing this research on z clauses. The student says......

If you could take the time to respond to this Survey I would be extremely grateful. The aim of this survey is to expand upon the issues identified both in the pilot survey and literature review and hopefully generate a really detailed piece of research on the subject matter. The Survey contains 66 mutilple choice questions and should take about 20 minutes to answer. All responses will be kept confidential and used solely for the purpose of this research. Thank you, for taking the time to complete this questionnaire and for all your help on this research topic

Student NEC dissertation

Dear all,

Another student's questionnaire for you to complete at lunchtime if that's ok! In his own words....

"I am currently completing my MSc via Leeds Met the final part of which is my dissertation. I am going to do it on NEC3 and in particular bespoke Z Clauses. I have prepared a questionnaire which I am struggling to get responses to. Would you mind having a look at it and possibly completing it. Also if there is anyone you know suitable to complete it please forward it on. All in all it should make a good piece of research particularly as I feel Z clauses do not help or improve NEC3 in many instances."

Thanks in advance,
Rob

Student research on NEC3

Dear all,

A student is working on a dissertation entitled ‘Is The Philosophy of the NEC3 Form of Contract That of a Truly Collaborative Contract’.

The basis of his review on this subject is:
1. To evaluate and analyse the strategic, high-level procurement objectives of the UK Government;
2. Review 3 key reports into the state of construction (Rethinking Construction, Constructing the Team and Never Waste a Good Crisis);
3. Undertake primary data gathering research via a survey of people on NEC3 projects;
4. Identify whether the widely endorsed NEC3 contract is truly a collaborative contract.

In an effort to garner the true opinions of individuals with experience on projects where the NEC3 contract is or has been in use (item 3 above), he has pulled together a quick online survey (link below), which he would be very grateful if you could distribute kindly complete. This will form an integral part of his data from which he will attempt to draw conclusions and recommendations. All responses are completely anonymous and so all responses to the survey should be as honest and open as possible in order for an accurate analysis to be carried out. There are a total of 32 questions, 6 of which are optional text based responses, and the survey itself should hopefully take no more than 5 minutes to complete.

Thank you in advance for your assistance, the survey will remain open for 3 weeks.

Student NEC research

In the student's own words.....

The reason I'm contacting you is because I require assistance with my dissertation project I am currently undertaking at Glasgow Caledonian University and have emailed you as I feel your input would be extremely valuable. I would be grateful if I could borrow 10mins of your time to assist in my research.

Programme : BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying
Dissertation Title :  The challenges faced in implementing NEC3’s proposed culture in today’s industry

I am currently an Honours Degree level student based in the Cumbernauld office for BBUS on the above programme and as part of my final year studies, I am required to undertake a Dissertation project.

I have tried to speak to as many people as I can before emailing this so as it comes as no surprise but unfortunately not been able to contact all. If I haven’t spoken with you directly before and sending you this email its due to someone recommending your name as someone who could have a valuable input into my research.

My chosen title is “The challenges faced in implementing NEC3’s proposed culture in today’s industry”, and I am writing to ask if you would be prepared to assist me with my research, this should take no more than 10 minutes of your time.
I would confirm that all information obtained as a result of the above will also be used solely for the purposes of fulfilling the dissertation criteria. Also, all respondents will remain anonymous and confidentiality of responses is guaranteed.

If you are able to assist me it would be greatly appreciated. I have tried to provide as much multiple choice answers as I can so it’s more convenient to finish the survey, but some of the answers will require some text input as the research will be based on people’s opinions of culture/NEC.

The closing date was 19/3/13 but seems to still be open.

NEC Student Research

Hi all,
Another student is doing an NEC dissertation. In the student's own words...

Is the Compensation Event Process an effective means of managing the impact of change during construction projects?

I am completing structured research and I wish to collect qualitative through a survey questionnaire which will be used to form the basis of a dissertation for a Masters Degree in Construction Business & Project Management through the University of Ulster at Jordanstown. Inefficiencies within the Construction Industry are well documented and project failures, with cost and time overruns, continue to fuel the poor image of construction as a profession.

It is suggested that Change is inevitable on construction projects, and whilst change can interrupt the flow of work and cause time and cost overrun, change orders provide an essential mechanism for ensuring the client’s needs are satisfied throughout the project and to respond effectively to errors and/or omissions in design, site conditions, construction methods, the external environment and contract documents.

Therefore, the means by which change is managed is critical to project success, in terms of defining cost and time performance. The title of my study is:

‘A critical analysis of whether the NEC3 Compensation event process provides Project Managers with an effective means of managing the impact of change during construction projects’.

This research aims to establish whether the NEC3 Compensation Event process, in practice, is an effective means of evaluating the impact of change in construction projects.

Please click on the link below to register and complete the survey.

Dear all,

Another student in need of a bit of your time. The student says....

"I am currently in my final year of an Honours Degree in Quantity Surveying in the School of the Built Environment at Heriot Watt University. For my dissertation, I have chosen the topic "Does the NEC3 Contract improve the Client and Contractor relationship"

Student NEC research

Dear all,

You can all have long lunches today!

More student research, this student says...

I am currently an Honours level student at Glasgow Caledonian University studying Quantity Surveying. As part of my final year dissertation I am conducting a survey of people in the industry with practical experience of NEC3 projects. The title of my dissertation is 'Dispute Avoidance and NEC3; to what extent has use of the NEC3 contract reduced disputes?' The purpose of the survey is to gather information from NEC3 users on their experiences of how successful the contract is at reducing disputes.

Thank you,
Rob

Another student looking for support with their research who says...

I am a student researching the role of the Project Manager on NEC contracts.

I would be most grateful if you could forward the link to my survey to the NEC Users' Group members.

Thank you.

Student NEC research

Dear all,

Another student survey if you would please. This student  aims to determine the impact of the gain / pain share mechanism specifically, in contributing to value for money in NEC contracting. Depending on whether the user is basing their response on the use of Options A / B, or C / D, a slightly different survey route will become available. He then hopes to be able to compare and contrast, and discover the impact this incentive mechanism (and its absence) has on value for money.

Thank you.

As part of my dissertation for an MSc in Project Management, I would be grateful if you could spend 5 minutes of your time to complete a short survey on the above topic.
